Today, thousands of young people, under-confident and often scared, are seeking release from their personal struggles in ways many adults would prefer not to contemplate and, sadly, ignore. You probably have friends who cut, friends who are bulimic and you know self-injury is a serious problem in teen culture today. Self-injury is taking teen culture by storm and its impact is evident in movies, music lyrics and countless music videos. This talk opens up discussion, raises awareness and shows a way out of the darkness.

We all thought it was an excellent presentation that clearly outlined the facts and brought an important issue into the light. It made it a lot easier to discuss in class as it can sometimes be a sensitive issue to initiate, and the discussions that went on in each class were excellent. Students shared their own thoughts/experiences after hearing what Brett had to say, which was so great as they probably wouldn't have done that otherwise. --Intermediate Teachers, St. Bernadette Catholic School

This video is a great conversation starter. Youth watch the video and are ready to talk about a very relevant and rarely discussed subject. I think some people worry that youth will hear about cutting and then begin cutting themselves. Actually the opposite is true. Statistics say one in 10 youth is involved in self-injury. That means all youth know someone who self-injures. Will we as youth workers, parents and teachers bury our heads in the sand or join the conversation? This video is the perfect entry point to the conversation.
